A magical organ voluntary, which one might have heard on an Edwardian bandstand or pier.
Full Title Intermezzo (A Marriage Souvenir) by William Wolstenholme (1865 – 1931))
Notes Written in 1913, and dedicated to Miss Monica Coleridge Boyd. It is Edwardian light-music, and I love it.
After an atmospheric introduction, the accompaniment to the main theme emerges in E major and scampers away around the tune. A middle section in C major has a rich, round melody, accompanied by gossamer broken chords, before the flighty first section returns.
Duration approx 5 minutes
Performers required
- Organ alone
