Wedding Music

Marche Nuptiale

A virtuoso march with dense musical textures.

Full Title Marche Nuptiale (Wedding March) Op. 108 – Florent Schmitt (1870-1958)

Notes Unlike some composers of organ music, Florent Schmitt is a composer whose name is more widely known for his orchestral music: particularly for his tragedy of Salomé. This is a grand and solemn piece, composed in 1951, not widely known and seldom played.

It is highly virtuosic; and the widely ranging harmony and dense textures mean that the listener (and performer) have to work hard. It would sound best on a large romantic instrument, rather than in a small parish church.

Duration 6'30"

Performers required

  • Organ alone
