Tavener at his most Orthodox
Full Title Wedding Prayer – John Tavener (1944-2013)
Notes Strong realisation of the Russian Orthodox choral tradition is found in this 1994 work - it moves chordally, and is solid and calm.
Duration 2 minutes
Performers required
- Choir a capella with baritone soloist. SATB Divisi (I would say this requires a professional choir, certainly a large choir, because of the divisi, and subterranean basses).

Remember, O Lord our God, thy servant N*, and thy handmaid NN*, and bless them.
Grant them of the fruit of their bodies, fair children, concord of soul and body.
Exalt them like the cedars of Lebanon, like a luxuriant vine.
Give them seed in number like unto full ears of grain;
so that, having enough of all things,
they may abound in every work that is good and acceptable to Thee.
Let them see their children's children, like olive shoots around their table;
so that, finding favour in Thy sight,
they may shine like the stars of heaven, in Thee, O our God.
For all glory, honour, and worship are due unto Thee:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages.
* The names of the groom and bride should be added here.
